TASMANIA. Hobart, July 22. In the Tasmauian Assembly a want- » of-confldence motion was proposed declaring that the Government wus not making a sincere effort to push its measures through tJio Legislative Council. The motion was rejected by 18f votes to 11.
.STATES AND COMMONWEALTH. Sydney, July 22. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. McGowan, moved that the conduct of the Government in its relations with the Commonwealth Iliad brought ridicule upon the State; and that such* conduct and also its action in making unwarranted and unnecessary appolntpointments to the Legislative Council merited the condemnation of the House. The Premier, Mr Wade, made a fighting speech in reply. He claimed that the Government had only done its duty in resisting the Commonwealth's efforts to eucroncn on State rights. Tile Government intended, acting in conjunction with the other States, to Issue a writ against the Federal Government to debar it from withholding from the States three-fourths of the revenue for June. He claimed t3iat the Legislative Council appointments wore necessary to make the Chamber reasonably effective. The debate was adjourned.
