TRADE UNION FUNDS.
IM'XI'IiNUNU iiKGISLAXiOX. AN iMI'OEXANT DECISION.
Received 22, D.IIO p.m. London, July 22. In the test ease brought by t'nc sec-l tnry of the Walthaiuston branch of
the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants against that society, justice Neville held at the trial that trade union funds could be employed to mlluence legislation by securing representation in the House of Common*. The union had as much right to support socialists iia Unionists or Liberals. The Daily Mail says that Justice Neville's decision is of the first import: ance, since a trade! unionist can be compelled to assist socialism bv his invol-
ntnry contributions. The Daily News says the decision is
sound sense; also a vindication of liberty.
The Chronicle says that trades anions have now a free hand to lie as political as they choose and to subsidise socialism if thev like.
