A large and enthusiastic, public meeting was held here this evening, ivnen a resolution was unanimously passed urging the Coverument to lake immediate steps to protect the sawinillingf and timber industry of the Dominion by increasing the duty ua American soft woods now being and about lo be dump, id wholesale in New Zealand, and that representatives from this district wait, with- the proposal deputation from the Sawniillers' Conference now being held in Wellington, on the Government with this cud in view.
