WESTPORT MURDER TRIAL.
By 'Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Saturday Night. The Vice-Consul for Norway here has asked the Premier for an inquiry into the methods adopted by the police in connection with the Ha linen and Anderson's murder trial. Sir Joseph Ward has replied that he has referred the matter to the for Justice. On the murder charge laid .against Connelly no evidence was offered, and the case was dismissed.
11l the perjury case there are thirteen counts. The Clerk of the Court depos-' ed that Connelly's demeanor was that of a person telling wilful lies, and that lie appeared to be 011 guard all the time.
Hugh Duncan, who had found Burke dying, said bis dog had barked as if there were some other person in the shed.
The hearing was adjourned till day.
Counsel said a woman had come forward with a statement implicating Con nelly alone in the assault.
