_ ilr, Newton King returned from Wellington on Saturday eve-ning. JI err ilcniio Sclierck has been appointed organist and choirmaster at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Cliristchurcli. At Feilding oil Thursday night the Rev. W. I<\ Stent, of St. John's Churcn, who is moving to Hawera, was presented by his parishioners with a purse of sovereigns.
Sir William Steward, '•Jallier" of tho House of Representatives, has secured an interesting return showing when each member was iivst elected, lie heads the list with a record attendance of thirtyseven sessions and ten Parliaments, fur he was first sworn in on 14th August, 1871. Next is the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, who was elected in 1882, and lias seen nine Parliaments. The present Speaker and the member for the Southern Maori district, Air. T. Pa rata", have each been in eight Parliaments, there are live who boast experience of seven, and six who came next with half-a-dozen,
Madame Melba, the famous singer, will make a tour of New Zealand in April next year. Mr. W. l'ryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, arrived by mail train 011 Saturday. His visit U in connection with the annual meeting of the local Association, which takes place in the Council Chambers this evening. All employers of labour should make an effort to hear Mr. l'ryor, as very important matters will be dealt with.

Not only is she a loving wife and a devoted mother, but she is I an expert of many handicrafts which' involve much practice and entail long study. She writes excellent prose and pretty verse; she speaks five languages; she knits stockings for her four-year-old son, Prince Olaf, and other children, and she spins with an oldfashioned wheel. She is fond of woodearving and book-binding, and is skilful with (he camera. She is a good chess player, her billiards are skilful, and she plays a, good enough, game of whist (o be a partner of her father, King Edward.
