TRAGEDY IN THE WAIKATO.
FATHER KILLS HIMSELF AND CHILD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. To Awaniutu, July 18. On Friday, a tragedy occurred at Manngatautari, ten miles beyond Kihikihi, when Frank Mason shot himself and his infant son. Constable Lander went to Maungatautari immediately on receipt of the news and returned late this evening. When lie entered Mason's house a ghastly spectacle met his eyes, the little baby boy, a child of only ten months, lay in the middle of the lloor with its head shattered by a gunshot wound, while the father's body lav behind the door with a bullet wound just below the left ear. Mason had been in New Zealand about three years, His wife was in the lions;; when the shooting took place, and naturally she suffered terribly from the shock. '
