The Industrial Disputes Court granted the application of the ex-cinpioyeos of the m\y ironworks for a Wages Board to inquire into the stoppage of the works. The Governor's Speech promised that the wiholo system of taxation would be reviewed, an unimproved land value tax would be submitted, the Licensing Act amended to provide for effective local option, and Bills dealing with closer settlement and free education brought forward. Mr. Barr-Smitli, a well-known mereliant, has presented tho Trades Hnll with £2300 to liquidate all existing I abilities on the hall. EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGE. Sydney, July 14. William Stanley Forbes, the Sydney inn imger of the Scottish Union National Insurance Company, has been arrested on a charge of stealing valuable security. Forbes recently purchased a schooner which was found provisioned and ready to proceed on a cruise in the South Seas. A deficiency of about £IOOO lias been discovered in 'nls books.
