Auckland withstood the second challenge for the New Zealand hockey Shield to-day, when they defeated Canterbury at Victoria Park bv two goals to one. The ground was in excellent) order, and there were 4000 spectators present. No score resulted during the . first spell, during which neither team I could claim ally advantage. In the sec-Olid half, which was considerably in Auckland's favor, Porter scored for the home team, and dimes notched a goal for Canterbury, and at the concliisionj of fjie second spell the scores were e ( |iial.
