LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The police require an owner for a circular air-cushion of brown rubber. At the S.M. Court yesterday a prohibition order was issued against a local resident, to take effect ill the Taranaki and Egiuont Licensing districts. Tlie concert held at St. Mary's Hall last evening under the auspices of Hie Whakatika Ladies' Hockey Club, was well attended, and a capital programme of songs, recitations, instrumental items, was submitted. Encore numbers were frequent, and the audience appeared to be in every way satistied. Tlie annual general meeting of the Tarauaki District Institute will be herd in the Education Board's room at 1.30 p.m. to-day. The business comprises: Annual report of the management committee, annual balance sheet, election of officers, etc., and discussion on the president's paper on nature study. A :very satisfactory report is to be presented by the secretary, the membership having increased during his term from 20 to 85.
The Xew Plymouth Harbor Bill will come before the Local Bills Committee on Wednesday, and the Harbor Board's representatives will leave on Monday and Tuesday. Messrs Marx and Maxwell have been communicated with by tile chairman (Mr. ,1. B. Connelt), will; will leave with Mr. X'ewton King on Monday morning. Messrs. Dockrill and Fred Bcllringer, representing the Borough Council, will accompany them in the hope of securing an interview witn the -Ministers in reference to the Molesworth street extension.
In connection with the school children's essays upon the "Xew Zealand Industries' " displays in Xew Plymouth next week, Mr. U. Goodacre. proprietor of the Egiuont Boot Factory, has su"-go.-lod to the woodware factories niul the local foundry that the children should be given an opportunity of visiting those places, with a view to giving ilieni an insight into our principal-nian*ctiu-e>. It is suggested that tlie co-operation of the teachers is desirable, so that the teachers' certificate might accompany each essay.
