Sydney, July 0. iho Lithgow ironworks were closed down to-night. Five hundred men have thus been thrown idle.

Tho dosing was tire outcome of tho refusal of the employees to accept the reduction of wages which the firm con•idwed necessary to enable it carrv on work until the Iron Bonus Bill should be passed or finally rejected by the Federal Parliament. Tho employers had offered, not only to raise the salaries again if the Bill were passed, but also in that case, to pay the back wages that would have accrued at the advanced rates in the intervening period. The employees took a liallot and a largo majority voted against acceptance of these terms.

The closing of the works will seriously afreet the town of Inthgow.
