The resolutions advanced by the Clevedon branch comprised the following planks:—Taxation for revenue purposes only; optional tenure of land; ratepayer's only to be empowered to vote on local government matters in county councils, road boards, and rural districts.
THE TARAXAKI SEAT. As at the late byccleetion, it j u almost certain that there will be a n-j. angular contest for the Taranaki seat at the general election. In this issue Mr. W. (i. Malone, who contested the seat at the bye-election as an Independent Liberal, announces himself as i candidate, standing as a Supporter of the Ward Government. Last evenin« we learned IrOni a source which w© Jiave the best of reasons for believing is absolutely authoritative, that Mr. C E. Bcllringer will be selected as 'Government candidate. There will thus be two supporters of Sir Joseph Ward's policy seeking the suffrages of the electors as against Mr. Okcy representing the Opposition. °
