RAIN AND FLOODS.
Ily Telegraph.—Press Association. Woodville, Tuesday. .Heavy rain has been hilling for 4S hours. The rivers are in high Hood. Settlers along the Mauawatu had plenty of warning, and saved all their stock. The .Manga-alua is- very high, running some feet deep over tlie southern roiui. The wind has now shifted and tile weather promises to clear. Masterton, Tuesday. The registered rainfall for the last 24 hours was 2M2 inches, wdiieh is slightly more than the fall for the previous month. The rivers and creeks are in flood, and the low-lying lands are submerged, it is still raining heavily, with no prospect of clearing. Heavy Hoods are feared. Some areas under crop on the hanks, of the Amunuliunga have been washed away, but no losses of stock are reported. ralmerston A l ., Tuesday. The .Mauawatu river is in heavy flood, the water at Fitzherbert bridge being within three Uvt of t'Do highest Hood water mark. The rain censed for the morning, but commenced again this afternoon. The Hood Jias washed away six >pans of the staging, near the Lower (Jorge bridge, in course of erection. The carrying away of the staging represents a loss of hundreds of pounds to Ihe contractor.
