■ ORCHARD'S. SENTENCE COMMUTED. , New York, July 2. The Idaho State Hoard of Pardons 'lias commuted the death sentence passed on Harry Orchard for the murder or Governor Steunenberg, of Idaho, to imprisonment for life. Orchard -was to have been hanged to-morrow.

The Court expressed the conviction that Orchard's allegations ot a conspiracy among officers of the Westfin Federation of Minors to assassinate Governor Steunenberg was the exact. truth. The Court therefore recommended .that Orchard's sentence should lie commuted to imprisonment for life. Orchard confessed from the beginning that | he had murdered Mr. Steuncnbcrg, Governor of Idaho; but he alleged that he Jiad been made the tool of the Mm- ' or*' Union, which had organised the murder in revenge for the part the Governor had taken against them in connection with a strike which they had promoted. In consequence of these "allegations three of the officials of the union—Haywood, Pcttib'onc and Moyor —were arrested and charged with the. murder of Steuncnbcrg. Haywood andj Pettihonc were acquitted after sensaf tional trials, and the labor unions all over the States rejoiced. The me \ against Mover was not proceeded with.
