'*. •; Received July 2, 10.20 p.m. .. i London, July 2. i. ' 'Margaret Gardener was sentenced ai the Manchester assizes to twelve months' ~i±i , imprisonment in connection with the y t robbery of, £20,000 worth of securities f.- and jewellery on 19th May.
. A lady and gentleman of Manchester, about to start for Liverpool, deposited in the guard's van of their train four " - packages. The guard himself did not Bee them deposited. Shortly afterwards another lady informed the guard that she was compelled to postpone her journey, and obtained from him the largest of tlie four, containing 20,000 worth of securities ami jewellery. The owners discovered their loss at Warrington. A woman (namely Margaret Gardener) was arrested at Liverpool in possession of the package.
