The Women's Social Political Union Convention at Caxton Hall deputed Mra Pankhurat and twelve others to carry a resolution to the House xA Commons. The police escorted the delegates to the entrance of the House, where the Inspector stated the Sergcant-at-Arins forbade' the deputation to enter. The Premier (Mr. Asquith) declined to receive the deputation, suggesting to them to present a written statement. This was reported to the Caxton Hall Convention, which forthwith prepared to invade the House of Commons. A huge, uproaroua crowd gathered in Parliament Square for two hours and watched the progress of the assault upon the House. The demonstrators appeared in detached parties, and the police promptly excluded them from the Square. Twen-ty-eight were arrested after a series ot Scuffles. i Another detachment in a boat ad- ■ ''dressed the Occupants of the Parliament House terrace, later two women in a taxicab, armed • with bags and stones, were arrested for smashing the windows of Mr. Asquith's house in Downing street. Proceedings at the Convention were .exciting. Replying to Lady Grove's expostulatory remark that it was notoriously illegal to walk in a procession to the Bouse of Commons, Mrs. Pankburst exclaimed: "Yes; John Burns discovered l r One sometimes' must be a law-breaker fcefore being a law-maker. We have ' only one black sheep in the flock. We : women are going to win. Let it be be-' . fore some tragedy, before some injury, to one of these women has blotted out. the page!"
