EVICTED ISLANDERS' TROUBLES. Sydney, July 1. Mr Quintal, from Norfolk lslaml, laid before the State Governor papers in Mipport of tliu plea of a limuber' of evicted islanders that liicir holdings were given them by Queen Victoria in IS3II.

The most important document is one from Governor DeuiSon to Sir George Grey, sent when tile. Island was being settled, it withdraws the suggestion to send nu officer to regulate the allotment of land to the families, as the Is> landers themselves have placed a magistrate in authority who could do it. Governor Denison says he lias directed .Mi-. Grcgorie, after retaining a few reserves for public purposes, to divide ihe whole Island among new-comers. "The object in so doing," he States, "is to check any attempt which might lie made on the part of the inhabitants of the Australian colonies to establish themselves on the Island. It is eSsenl.ial that the land should be transferred to the new comers ill such ;' manner as di give them the right to deal with- it as their own. Legislative interference from colonial Governments should be kept out." Instructions were given Lieutenant Grcgorie to .set aside a little public land and glebe. The remainder should be handed over to the different heads of families."
