SUICIDE OF A SKUATTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Saturday. A welt-Known resident of Palmerston, Laurence Laurenson, shot himself at Tokoniaru this uioruing. Death was instantaneous. Deceased tied each end d | a bootlace to Hie trigger of a doublebarrelled gun and placed his foot in the loop thus made, 'tile barrel he placed in his month. Deceased was previously a builder and contractor, but during recent voars bad devoted himself to pastoral pursuits ou a large scale, having several leasehold and freehold properties. He hail been speculating heavily in -stock and tile fall in prices had considerably affected his linancial position. It ;s thought that the worry induced insomnia, which resulted in the dreadful oeeuiTcneo of this morning. Deceased is survived by a wife and live children. l'almerston N., Last Might. At the inquest to-day on Lawrence Laurenson, who committed suicide at Tokomaru yesterday, a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane w'as -returned. PLOUGHMAN'S ATTEMPTED
SUICIDE. Hastings, Saturday. A. Beedic, a ploughman, single, aged ;iu, who arrived from Taueru, Masterton, oil Tuesday, attempted suicide by cutting his throat. . He was removed to the hospital weak from loss of blood, but is expected to recover. Beedie had been despondent owing to his inability to obtain work. SUDDEN DEATH.

Jolin Bewley, ii l>iikor, U2 years of age, was found dead on the footpath in Leitli street, near liis home, early this morning, having apparently died while on his way to work. At the .inquest, a son of deceased said the latter had complained of tightness of the chest yesterday, and seemed a little, faint, but recovered after sitting down for a while. A verdict of death from heart disease was returned.

It ap- ' jq&Slfms came down from Cliristeliurch two or three days ago. Between ten and 11 o'clock this morning she was seen to go into the water at Ocean 'Beach and 1 throjv herself down. Two artillerymen, who witnessed the deed, ellected a rescue. Miss Small suffered from influenza ; some time ago, and it is thought this ' may have all'ected her to some extent. ! SUICIDE AT SEA. Dunedin, Last Night. On the voyage of the Kumara, which readied Port Chalmers yesterday from London direct, a fireman named William Moore committed suicide. He was found lying on deck at 2 a.m. oh May 22 with his throat cut, and died nine days afterwards. The body was buried at sea. ACCJ DENTALLY SHOT. , Dannevirke, Last Night. A young man named Alexander was i accidentally shot at Norsewood yester- • day, while out shooting. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
