DUNEDIN NEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dnnedin, Last Night. At to-day's meeting of the Charitable* Aiil Board it was agreed to grant pB" sistanee for maintenance to children in the Anglican Orphanage, Presbyterian Orphanage, and Karitane Home. The scarlet fever' epidemic is on .the increase in Dunedin, and it has' been found necessary to erect a. second marquee at tiro fever camp. The infectious diseases hospital will probably lie completed next week. _ Messrs. A. Palmers, G. Parkes, and A. Tuffin were to-night elected emergency I delegates to represent the Otago Trades' und Labor Council at. a conference to be lield in Wellington on July 20. Messrs. Breen and Westwood were originally appointed delegates but cannot attend and 'it is possible that Mr. J. Ilayncs will also he'unable to attend, hence the above election.

■ The Council to-night passed the following resolution: —That this Council endorses the nmendment of the Fae.tories Act passed last session providing for a minimum weekly wage, without deductions for factory workers.: and strongly urges upon the Government to resist any attempt made in the direction ,of having the amendment repealed.

, SCARLETINA EPIDEMIC. Dannevirke, Last Night. Owing to the prevalence of scarlet'imu the North Scliool has been closed for three weeks' fumigation and re-painting, AUCKLAND TRAMWAYS INQUIRY. Wellington, Lust Night. The Government has appointed Dr. A. McArthur, S.M., chairman of the special board which is to enquire into tlie merits of the dispute between the Auckland tramway employees and the company. The board will sit early next week. ALL-ROUND INCREASE IN WAGES.

Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Harbor Board decided to-day to increase. the various wages and salaries, amounting altogether to £1535 per annum. Tally clerks and toll clerks ■ire to receive about sixpence per day more than permanent laborers, signal station's staff £1 per month per man, senior pilot from £3OO to £4OO, second pilot £3OO to £i)so, third pilot £270 to £3OO. The harbormaster is to receive ,-£550, with annual increments of £25 till £OOO is reached. The minimum wage of permanent laborers is now fixed at 8s (id per day. The chairman said the Hoard recognised that cost of living had increased.

COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day William Gunn McKay was committed for; trial on a charge of stealing articles of underwear from a vessel in port. HARBOR BOARD EXPERIMENT, Wellington, Last Night. The Harbor Board has decided to erec-t about twelve hot and cold shower' baths iir one of its stores on the wharves for the use of persona employed thereon. This is in the nature of an| experiment., to be extended if the men avail themselves of the baths. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. Wellington, Thursday. . Arthur Joseph Wicks, musician, who was brought back from Sydney yesterday by Detective Lewis, was before the Court to-day, charged with issuing several valueless cheques. The police stated that the amount involved was £40.A remand till Wednesday next was granted, bail being allowed.
