I.hu police received information this evening that an infant named Maud Pain, aged seven months, daughter of E. l'ain, of .Mikiniiki, had died as a result of burns it had received. Jt appears that Jlrs. Pain was holding the child in front of a fire when it fell into the 1 , tire, and was so severely burnt that, it died. PECULIAR POISONING CASE. Ohristclmrch, Last Night. A peculiar poisoning case occurred on the Broken River-Christehurch train today. John .Smith, a guard, feeling thirsty, purchased a bottle of lemonade at Darlield. After drinking some of the contents he was suddenly taken ill, and Oil arrival of tile train at ('hristehurcli he was taken to the hospital. Another person who took a portion of the lemonade was also all'ected, but obtained relief bv inducing vomiting.
