Mr. U. 11. Robinson, of Stratford, was in town yesterday. Jlr. Newton King proceeded lo the Palmcrston show yesterday. He -will probably return on Friday. Mr. F. T. Ilellringer, the Town Clerk, was last night appointed the Borough Council's delegate to the Municipal Conference. It is being advocated in South 'Parana ki that the T. Langdon Joll memorial take the form of a dairy scholarship to be competed for annually us a Taranaki concern, and tenable at"the Palmcrston North Dairy School. At Manaia on Saturday evening Mr. T. dough, who is retiring from the postal service, was the recipient of a presentation and purse of sovereigns at the hands of the local residents. Mrs. Newall, wife of Colonel Newall, died at Wellington last night (says a press wire). She was a sister of Colonel Roberts, formerly Stipendiary Magistrate at Tauranga. The deceased lady married Colonel Newall in 1872. Mr. John Cameron, organising secretary of the Anli-Asiatie league, is at on a flying visit to New Plymouth in connection with the objects of the League, the headquarters of which arc at present in Palmcrston North. Sir Arthur Sullivan's classical cantata "The Golden Legend.'' produced bv the Wellington Musical Vnion on Friday last, W as a huge success. The honors of the evening's performance, reports the Dominion, go to Miss Rosina Buckmnn a s Elsie, a role which she sang wilh an artistic zeal and finish that compelled admiration. Miss Buckman is a dramatic soprano who in compassing the music suffused a spirited warmth into the characterisation that held the audience to the interest of the story, whilst charming them with her vocal'capacity, tier upper range, litis a remarkable flutelike quality that maintains a good breadth without loss of tone right up to j the top C, as was charmingly evidenced in the solo, "The Night is Calm," which leads into the "Christc Eleison" solo and chorale. She was also successful in those pastoral interludes with the Prince in Scene 111, where she sings "All Through Life are Wayside Inns."
