PRICE OF POTATOES.
"THE PAXIL'" IN THE SOUTH. j By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In regard to a report in a southern paper concerning the peculiar condition of the potato market at present, am* particularly in reference to the. statement that "a panic seems to pr.evaijl in the North Island where heavy orders.for forward delivery up t» September have taken place at £5 10s f.0.U.," a Post representative made enquiries of several leading produce dealers in Wellington. The enquiry elicited the information that so far as Wellington was concerned there was no truth in the statement, fc'o far as was known there had been «o "shuffling" and the market, though inclined to dullness, was holding very steady. The present price, £o to l£S 10s, according to quality, was considered v,ery satisfactory by all concerned? from tlie grower to the consumer, and so far as could bo judged values were' not expected to go much licyond these figures this season. Only this morning a quotation from the South listed prime Dcrwcnts at £4 10s f.o.b.
