McCarthy, an indeterminate sentence prisoner with a bad record, who lias been in gaol almost continuously during lae last six years for breaking, entering, and theft, succeeded in opening the two doors of his cell in the solitary confin>' ment section of the gaol, but was du w covered by a warder. A rope made rf McCarthy's blanket and shirt was found in the cell of Allandale. another notorious criminal. McCarthy had escaped from custody on three previous occasions.
