In the presence of a gathering of fourteen thousand at Chicago, the Republican Convention adopted with' acclamation the Rooseveltite "platform, including a modilied form of anti-injunc-tion plank which upholds the authority of the courts. Another demands the strengthening of the Sherman antitrust law: a third recommends the revision of the- taritl' by a special session of Congress immediately after the inauguration of the next President. The workers are'described as the most direct beneficiaries uiider the protective system. The platform declares that the United' States owns one-fourth of the world's wealth and makes one-third of modern manufactured products. When Senator Taft was proposed for the Presidency then! was a demonstration second only to that accorded to President Roosevelt. Seven hundred ] and two voted for Senator 'Jaft, OS for Senator Knox, U» for C. E. Hughes, Coventor of Now York, B1 for .1. C. Cannon, Speaker of the House, 40 for E. W, Fairbanks, President of the Senate. 2.) for Senator Lafollette, 1(1 for Senator J. K. Foraker. The Pcnnayk vanians. amidst immense cheering, cast three votes for President Roosevelt. Senator Taft's nomination was more unanimous at the 'subsequent vote.
