reporter that unless there was a marked improvement in the quality of rabbits, the export trade was practically on its last legs. There was an increasing demand for rabbits at Home, but those sent from Australia were in much
better demand than those from New Zealand, heeausc the forme* received more careful handling prior to export' and had a belter appearance on arrivil in England. Mr. Tonkin thinks a good export business in apples could he done with the London and South American markets.

Palmerston N., Last Night. The Catholic body have purchased a large 17-roomed residence here for a Christian Brothers' school The headquarters of the Christian Brothers are at Dublin, and in Australasia the headquarters are at Sydney. The only other institution of the kind under the direction of the Christian Brothers is at Dunedin.
CONCILIATION.

At a meeting of the Conciliation Board to-day it was intimated that the masters did not desire to give evidence in (ho ugineers' dispute and the statement was accepted. A conference took place m the matter of the painters' dispute, it hoing represented that some recommendations filed were in some respects different from the agreement arrived jit 1 lithe parties. The Board will next sit at Wellington.
AUCKLAND LOAX.

The Auckland City Council, at its meeting to-night, decided to increase the proposed loan to £130,000, of which f.2,000 is to be Spent on struct improvements, and the balance on building the town hall, morgue', abattoirs, park improvements, etc.

Tn connection with the election of three members to the Public Service SupcrajvnuSation Board, the executive of the New Zealand Civil Service Association resolved to-night to recommend Messrs G-.
