"During my stay in Paris (writes Mr. G. .S. Jlunro, manager of the recent Ne.v Zealand Exhibition), I went out to Auteuil, where I saw an afternoon's horseracing. The class of horses competing
impressed me very much indeed. The horsemanship was good, but the starting was not up to the New Zealand
standard. The starting gates appeared lr> Ije better than ours, though I did not get an opportunity of examining 1 hem closely. The racecourse is wonderfully convenient to the centre of the city, anil tan bo readied l>v Irani-ear or motor-car in a few minutes. What surprised nie in connection with tile racecourse wis the number of different racing Iracus. The short races were run on a straiuM track, right through the centre of th« course. A mile and a-lialf and further appeared to be run on an outside racing track', while races from six furlongs ti) a mile were run on au inside racing track. The grandstand accommodati jji for the public was on an extensive scale. The course itself is not fenced in. ami von can sit in your motor car or cab cn the street 011 any side, and see all th; racing without paying any charge for admission, excepting for the granTlenclosures. There was no charge, ami the public were permitted access" to fie course without anv restriction wlntevfr."
