PALMERSTON SITTINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palnierston N., Saturday. At the Supreme Court this morning counsel for plaintiff in the case Hamer v. Hornblow, proprietor of the Manawatu Herald, a claim for £5Ol damages for alleged libel, slated that the action would he withdrawn, defendant havi'ig admitted that the innuendos complained i of in the article were capable of bearing the construction placed upon them by plaintiff, but asserting that these innuendos were not intended. Details as to costs, etc., are to be settled between the parties. The first case to be heard on Monday morning will be that of W. J. Connor v. W. Waugh, a claim for £lO3l damages. The case arises out of the recent stabbing aUray, in which plaintiff, who was a constable stationed here, was stabbed by defendant while arresting him on a charge of drunkenness. WELLINGTON SITTINGS. Wellington, Saturday. Frank Dart and Martin Petersen, convicted of theft at Dannev-irke, came before Judge Chapman for sentence. Dart was given six months' imprisonment and Petersen was admitted to probation. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court yesterday, Frank Evans, aged 25 years, was sent to prison for four months fo r assaulting a barman at the Occidental Hotel by throwing a jug at him and causing him bodily harm. Richard Patrick Ham, 24 years of age, for stealing two horses at Pahiatua, wis sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and ordered to make restitution of f,5 Ills. A young man named Michael McGrath, who arrived in New Zealand six years ago, came up for sentence for forgery and uttering. Prisoner had been previously convicted for stealing a pair of boots.' Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, and £8 2s 3d found on him is to be handed over to the person he defrauded.
