PLURAL CONTRACTS. Reef ton, June 13. There have been no further developments in the Itlackwatcr contractors' strike trouble. The district is under the control of the Inangahua Miners' Union. The president of the Union will visit Blackwater to-morrow, when the matter will be fullv discussed, but no news will be available till Monday. Mr. E. W. Spencer, general mil linger of the Consolidated Goldliclds of New Zealand and the Blackwater mines, is at. picscU at Blackwater. The men are determined to insist, en the contracts lieing divided amongst the working parties. Th 'y object to one man obtaining four or live contracts at once, and regard this as the thin edge of the wedge of sweating.
GORE RAILWAY COLLISION'. Wellington, Saturday. The Minister for Railways lias ordered an inquiry into the railway collision which occurred at Gore yesterday.
CHEMISTS CONFERENCE. Wellington, Saturday. A deputation from the Federated Association of Chemists waited on the Minister for Ileultli today to lay before him the resolutions passed liy the conference.- A special request made was that an advisory committee should lie set up in connection with the working and administration of the Pure Food and Drugs Act, and it was submitted that the 'chemists should have a yem"v sentative on the Hoard. The Minister said the resolutions of the conference would receive earnest consideration. In the appointment of an advisory committee on the lines suggested he saw -i good nuinv difficulties. -Many people thought they should be represented, and the J committee would be apt (o becom" clumsy.
