A HOME FOR GIRLS.
SALVATION ARMY'S PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY. Per Press Association. Dunedin, Lust Night. The olliciul opening of tlie Solvation Army Home for Girls at Middlemarch took jilac' to-duy. The Home was the property of the late Mr. Gillies, from whose executors it was 'bought a {?.W ( months ago by Colonel Knight on be half of Commissioner McKie for £1730. The purchase money was raised by a. general Subscription, the sum in hand at present amounting to something like !£3.')00. The Home, which is situated within easy distance of tile railway, lias an orchard and 17 acres of land, stables, etc. It will be used for the Rearing ot destitute, or neglected children, and children will be received from parents who are not able to look after their olf' spring, but who are willing to pay for their maintenance. The Home is' for girls only. At the end of the weekthere will bo fourteen inmates, ilia!, there is room for 35. Some hart been transferred from the Wellington Home. The ages range from 3 t.o 13. Seventeen will be the age limit. The officer in charge is Adjutant Woodford, who is assisted bv Adjutant Burgess, Ensign Humphries, and Captain Coombs. Xne house has eleven large airy rooms, each of which has a fireplace and is lighted with acetylene gas A line "water supply is provided. The Home was officially opened by Mr D. Rcid, M.P., and speeches were delivered by Ilev. \V. Sauniler>, Colonel Knight,'and Mrs. Colonel Fisher.
