GERMANS COI'KT-MARTIALI.KD. Berlin, June '>■ l-'onr sergeants and four bombardiers have been court-martiallt'd at Berlin for ill-treating soldiers. There were MX) eases against Sergeant Thamnie and 4u against Sergeant Schurz. One soldier, it was stated, had suicided owing to Diamine's cruelty. Others were daily flogged, whipped, and belalioreil with lists, straps, and sticks. Recruits were compelled to run the gauntlet of soldiers armed with r°ds. Thamme was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment and reduction in rank, and the others to terms of imprisonment not exceeding three months.
