TilK lIUI'F. ()!•' I'.(iMONT JUVENILES,
The Hope of Egmont: Juvenile Lodge. 1.0. C.T., eelebyted its (ir.-t anniversary last ni"lit. The celebrations took the form of a banquet, the youngsters, no doubt, following the example of the parent lodge in this regard. The feast was spread in the (.bweii street schoolroom, and the tables were set out in the real festal style. The same style was invoked in disposing of the many good things provided for the .satisfaction of the Inner—boy and girl. Bro. La wry IVppcroll. C.f. of the juvenile branch, presided. On his right were ltro. J. C. Lc-ir (of the Kgniont Lodge, So. 112), Rev? T. <i. Brooke, and Mr. C. K. Bellringer: and on his left Sister Bruce, superintendent of the Lodge, Mr It. Okev, M.l'.. and Rev. .7. Hibler. There was'a very large gathering of juveniles and members of the adult lodge. After tlie banquet a toast list was successfully negotiated, and it was interesting indeed to notice the manner in which the boy chairman performed his work. His own toast of the health of the parent lodge was well given, and be announced the various speakers throughout theevcning with a skill surprising in a juvenile, whilst all the little proposed seemed to have successfully overcome any natural nervousness. The whole evening was quite a. treat. Amongst the members of the lodge are some children who have undoubted talent, and several of the vocal items by the children were undeniably good. The following toasts were honored:-—"The. King," proposed by the chairman; "Kgniont Lodge, No. 112." tlie chairman, response by Bro. .1. C. Legg: "Kindred Societies." proposed by Bro. X. White, responses by Uev. Brooke (Whitoley Band of Hope). Rev. Ilildcr, Mr C. E.'Belh-iiiger (Taranaki No-license League); "Juvenile Temple, No. 2.'>." Bro. Stokes. L.D., responses by Sis. Mrs Bruce and Bro. F. l'epperill; "The Visitors," proposed bv Bro. F. Roberts, response by Messrs. 11. Okey, M.l'., and Mr. J. r'ptoii; and "The Press," proposed by Bro. F. l'epperill. The programme was as follows.—Overture, Mrs. Moverley; song, Sis. A. Loe.sch; recitation. Sis. 1). Tunbridgc; vocal duet, Sisters (iilbert; recitation. Sis. I. COnnett; song, Muster Baden Movorloy; recitation, Sis. L. Allan; recitation, Sis. E. Roberts. Mrs. Moverlev played the accompaniments.
During the evening it transpired that, miller the guidance and emit rid of Sis. Mrs. Bruce and Bro. F. l'epperill the juvenile lodge has progressed until it now numbered about III) members. The first meeting was held on June 3rd of vear. with Hi members present. The temple was duly instituted by Bro. J. C. Legg on June 2-Uh, and all the ollicers elected then were, still members of the lodge. Kach quarter had seen an increase of about twenty members. Four of the members had been transferred to the adult lodge, this being one. of the main objects of (he work. Only one meeting during the year lapsed, and that was on a really terrible night just recently. The prospects of increased membership were bright.
