GENERAL SIR REDVERS BLLLKR. London, June .'). The death is announced of General Sir Rcdvers Bullcr. BOER APPRECIATION. Received June 3, 11.26 p.m. ll'retoria, June 3. General Botha, Premier of the Trans- I vaal, condoled with the late General Buller's family. ■Mr. J. H. Smuts, Attorney-General, interviewed, regarded the late General as one of the hardest lighters, and said that the criticisms concerning his campaigns against the Boers were not justified.
Few British generals were better known thau the late Sir Redvers Buller. In the earlier stages of the Boer war he acted as commander-in-chief of the British forces, afterwards acting undjer Lord Roberts. Sir Redvers had a dis- j tinguishetl career. He entered the Army in 1858; served in China in 1*0; fa the Red River expedition, 1870; in the Ashanti war, 1574; in the Kaflir ■war, 1878; in the Zulu wars, 1878-79; in the Boer war, 1881; in the .Soudan war, 1882. In 1898 he was in command at Aldmhot, and later took part, as mentioned, in the last Boer war. lie was •8 years of age. i
