OTAGO WINTER SHOW.
Per Press AsftoeiatiiMi Dunedin, Lust Night. The Otago A. and P. Society's winter show was opened to-day in splendid woather and with a record attendance. The quality of the exhibits was fully up to the standard of previous years, and competition was very keen, particularly in cheese and factory butter. Prime Minister, who traced the pro-'' gress of the Society since the lii'st winter show in 1804, and also quoted statistics illustrating the steady headway made by the province. He also referred to the good work being carried on by the Department of Agriculture, and went on to say that the Government was anxious to provide an experimental farm in tho South Island. PRIZE LIST: Five hundredweight lull cream New Zealand cheddar-sbaped cheese, suitable for export (colored)—Edendale 1, Mataura 2, Omimi 3. Five hundredweight full cream New Zoaland eheddar-shaped cheese, suitable for export (white)—Edendale 1 ,Wyndham 2, Omimi 3. Factory-made cheese, suitable for export (white or colored)—Edendale 1, Mataura 2, Seaward Downs 3. Two factory-made cheese, suitable for export (white or colored), judged by one judge elected by the cheese-makers and one by the Dairy Commissioner—Edendale 1, Mataura 2, Seaward Down 3. Cheese for grading points—Aparima 1, Edendale 2, Mataura 3, Gore 4, SeaFive hundredweight factory - made cheese, suitable for export (white or colored), to be sent direct, from factory to show—Edendale 1, Seaward Downs 2, Mataura 3. Case of factory-made loaf cheese, suitabel for export (white or colored) —Endendalc 1, Mataura 2, Wyndham 3. Edendale won all the special prizes for eheesee. Best three boxes (each half ...hundredweight) of factory butter suitable for export—Cheltenham 1, Hawke's Bay 2 South Canterbury 3. One box factory butter, suitable for export, North Island only—Cheltenham 1, Thames Valley 2, Bell Block 3. One box factory butter, suitable for export—South Canterbury 1, Cheltenham 2, Bell Block 3. Butter for grading points—MidhirSt 1, Bell Block 2, M'aketawa 3, Whenualtura 4, Canterbury Central 5. M. McDowell won practically all the first prizes in farmers' butter.
