MAKAHU
(From Our Own Correspondent). I The. annual school concert at, Makahu was held on the 22nd nil., and was well | attended. A very fine programme was I given, and the various items were well received. The opening item was a line i pianoforte duet by Mrs. T. Motmsey and ' Mrs. Cameron. Then followed a lengthy programme of Wngs by Mrs. A. Jordan (Stratford), Mra S. Martin, Messrs. A. Eraser, and R. Mounsey, these items being interspersed by recitations given by Misses R. Newman, A. Wright and Celia Ford. These latter performers gave, evidence of very careful and capable teaching on the part of Mrs. Cameron, the teacher at the school. The scholars had mustered in the hope of receiving their prizes after the usual 'interval; ibut they were nt>t forthcoming. At that moment they were reposing at Stratmorc, having been forgotten by the gentleman who was intended to bring them in. This threw the programme a little out, and as the chairman did not arrive from "de ole plantation'' with his minstrels at the appointed time Mesdames S. Martin, I. R. Mounsey, and Jordan tilled the breach with songs. The "Makahu Minstrels," under the contluctorship of Mr. S. Martin, contributed the second part of the evoning's entertainment, and the members of the troupe niu*t lie congratulated upon their effort, the solos and choruses being good and the jokes and comic allusion right up-to-date, causing side-splitting laughter. Mr. W. Kilpatrick filled the role of "Massft Johnson," with Mr. R. Mounsey as "Tambo" and Mr. 6. Noble as' •'Bones." The vocal items were given by .Messrs R. Mounsey, W. Kilpatrick. C. Noble, F. Newman, E. Cook, A. Eraser, A. Walker, with Messrs. J. O'Connor, S. Martin, and S. Wilson assisting in the choruses. A '-laughing chorus" concluded the most successful school concert yet held here. Mr. A. Covue was chairman, and Mrs. q\ R. Momi'scv
acted as accompanist in a most capable manner. Dancing followed, goiiilr merrilly till 3.30 a.m., the music bem* supplied by Mrs. Cameron and Mr. B. Walker. The piano was kindlv lent bv Mr. R. Mounsey. The committee deserves great praise for the capital urrau»cInents made.
