THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB.

Last night's mooting abundantly demonstrated that our correspondenthail* correctly gnaged the c-nvreiit trend ni public* o)iinion on the necessity for providing additional facilities for social intercourse among the men, particularly the young men, of Xew IMymoulii. A more representative meeting could not haw been wished for.and greater initial success could not haw been achieved. There were present beside* young men representatives of nearly every calling in {lie town, a considerable number of genllemen of more mature years representing the commercial and professional community and the (hurdles. From the enthusiastic response to tho call for members, close on 50 subscribing their names in the room, we have little doubt, that the J .lO target will be hit within the next few days. ()u the basis of a '.membership of l.iO—which, we believe, can be mvollwl to over 200—it was shown that an up-to-date club cOnld be successfully conducted oil an annual membership fin' of one pound. Thai this should be possible is due in no small measure to tile favorable terms upon which the splendidly situated rooms under oiler may be secured. Commencing with a billiard room, comfortably furnished commercial, reading, card, and smoking rooms, we have not the slightest tear that the club will ever haw au.v dilliculty in maintaining a membership roll at the maximum strength. It is in the interests of the town that sucli an institution should llourish, pruvid- j iug, as it is intended it shall, a common meeting place fnf all shades of opinion. I creeil, aiid f alling, and particularly » j common -ocinl home I'm- young men j otlu-r part-.. who>e o|>|»<»rt unitie-; !
