The speeches i were oi a very high order of merit, and in awarding the prizes the lU>\\ IX-an .McKenna stated that the jiid-ct. were of the opinion that the oratorical efforts of (lie young men showed careful preparation and promised well for the future. I lie ln -l prize, a gold medal pre-ented l.y the I;.'v. Father MeMauus, went l 0 Mr. .1. J. .Sullivan; the seeonil prize, a silver medal, was awarded to .\lr. Ball. The chairman announced that the next contest would take place in alwut a fortnight',,- time. hlm.-h the contest would be restricted to persons under the age of 21 years. Mr. Michael Jones had presented a gold medal for tlie competition. The judges' decision met with the unanimous "approval of the audience.
