Melbourne, May 2-"»-Mr. Dcakin denies the statement that he intend* to ask Parliament to grant £3OOO to assist in the establishment of ft yacht race between yacht?, of Iraild and equipment, which could be at the disposal of the Commonwealth or New Zealand, either as torpedo boats or scouts. Mr. Deakin says the suggestion is interesting, but he wants a more definite scheme. The matter was brought before Mr. Deakin ltv Captain Whitney, acting on behalf of Auckland yachtsmen. Captain Whitney savs Sir Joseph Ward has promised favorable consideration to a request for £SOO.
