NO-LICENSE RALLY.
AT ' Per Press Association. Ashlnirton, Last Night, xlie no-license mass meeting held licre to-night was one of the largest: and most enthusiastic gatherings evei" held in Ashburton. The Mayor presided, and was supported by tlie Angli- ■ can, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist clergymen of the county and of ■ Ceraldine, and prominent workers. Mr. Atkinson spoke for nearly an hour, and Mi'. Taylor for an hour and a-half. At the conclusion the following motions were carried unanimously:—"That this im-cling, recognising the substantial bonWits accruing' from no-license in even restricted areas, unanimously demands from Parliament the power of colonial option by bare majority; (2) that, recrtg- , nising the immense benefit conferred upon this district bv six years of noI in the reduction of drunkenness and cmuc and the promotion of domestie- happiness, public decency, and material prosperity, and undeterred bv tlie outrageous misrepresentations of nntent tacts which have been made bv the advocates of the liquor traffic with a view to securing the restoration of licenses, tins public meeting of electors of Ashburton expresses its determination to make every legitimate effort to secure the carrying of the poll against restoration and to extinguish the six licenses recently -added to the electorate."
