THE LAND LAWS.
AUCKLAND FARMERS' yiEWS. Per Press, Association. ' Auckland, Last Night. At the annual provincial conference of the Farmers' Union, this afternoon, Mr. F. Dye moved:—That this coherence protests against any attempt by the Government in the direction of land nationalisation, and considers the legislation of last session by which nine million acres of Crown lands were removed from the optional System when thrown open for settlement is tlie first step in this direction. .
Mr. Dye said he considered endowment was only another word for nationalisation. The Dominion was losing iier young men. who were thoroughly disgusted with the existing state of affairs. Their president, for one, was leaving for Canada, on account of his dissatisfaction with the present land laws. Mr. T. R, Phillips said there could be l no doubt of the optional tenure being the wish of the majority of the people. How was it that the efforts of the land nationalises had succeeded? It was because the farmers had been fooled by the glib promises of Parliament. He taniuded those on the land that it was no use passing motions unless there was resolution behind. Ho trusted the iarmers would put a "black mark" against election candidates who were not Ann on the matter and act upon it. (the motion was carried unanimously.
