a memorable incident in naval history is recalled by the death of Captain It It. Bradford (retired) at Pad-low oil April 2. This is the cllicer who. as ,i sub-lieutenant on the Invincible, headed a volunteer party which landed at l-'orl. Mex, Alexandria, during the bombardment, in July, 18S2. ami fi piked six smooth-bores and disabled two 10-inch rilled muzzle-loaders. The whole party returned without casualty. Among the twelve volunteers on Unit occasion was the present v'icc-Adniiral Sir Richard I'ooiv, coinmander-iti-chicf on the Australian station.
