CHRISTCHURCH SESSIONS. Christchurch, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, Ronald (irant (.iilbert, aged 17%, who pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to a charge of house-breaking, was brought up for sentence. His Honor saiil he would make a recommendation committing the accused to a reformatory until he attained the age of twenty-one. Frank Sales, a y°»ng man, was charged with liaving entered a house On November 3rd, IUO7, and stolen an opal ring and other jewellery and money, and, on a further charge, with having received one opal ring knowing that the same had been dishonestly obtained. Accused had been granted a re-trial by the Court of Appeal. The Acting-Crown Prosecutor said no further evidence was VwttilaAile. A formal verdict of not guilty was returned. George Barnes was charged on three

counts "with stealing at Christchurch, Oil the night of February 8 (the date of the extensive fire in Christchurch) a rool of tweed valued at .£l9, the property of (lott Bros., a quantity of jewellery, fancy goods ,etc., valued at £52, the property of 11. Oakey, and one overcoat and a quantity of tweed, valued at .£l3 lis. the property of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Co.; also on three counts of knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Mr T. G. Russell appeared for the Crown. Barnes pleaded guilty and was sentenced

to six months. John l.eslie Brown was charged with striking his wife, Isabella Brown, with his fist and dashing her to the ground at Alford, Forest road, near Ashburton, on January 3, 1908, thereby causing her actual bodily harm, and, oil a lurther charge, with assaulting the said Isabella Brown on the same date. Accused was ac(|iiitted. William Evans was convicted of two charges of breaking, entering, and theft I in the Ashburton district and was arraigned on a third when the Court adjourned.

AUCKLAND SESSIONS. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Edwards, John Chappel, who pleaded guilty to a criminal assault on a girl under the ago of 15, was sen- • tenced to twelve months' hard laßor. Tanc Horore Tango and John Baker, two native lads, aged 17 and 15 years respectively, on charges of breaking, entering, and theft at KaiMio, pleaded that it was their first offence and applied for probation. His Honor admitted both to probation for one year. Both were ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. Henry Herbert, a Maori, charged with stealing a portmanteau containing about £l6 worth of clothes from the scow Herald, was found guilty and demanded for Sentcnce. Karl Hcllstrom, a Swede, about 26 years of age, was found guilty ol stealing forks and spoons and two rugs from the steamer Gosforj in Kaipara harbor, and also remanded for sentence.
