COALING OF THE AMERICAN FLEET. Sydney, May 111. ' The Seaham Coal Company has obtained the contract for coaling the American fleet at Sydney.
ADMIRAL SPERRY IN COMMAND. Received 17th, 4.15 p.m. New York, May Hi. Admiral Charles Sperry has succeeded Admiral Thomas in command of the American Atlantic fleet. Rear-Admiral Charles S. Sperry, who has been in command of the fourth division of the Atlantic fleet, reached the rank of rear-admiral in May, 11)011. He was president of the Naval War College at Newport in 1006, and was the naval delegate t-.i the second peace conference at The Hague. Rear-Admiral Sperry will retire for age on September 3r, 1908. Rear-Admiral Charles Mitchell Thomas is a native of Pennsylvania, and was graduated from the Naval Academy in 18(15, reaching the rank of rear-admiral in January, 1005. Rear-Admiral Thomae will retire for age on October Ist next.
