PERSONAL.
Two New Zealand students at Edinburgh University, .Messrs. \\\ Johnston and 11. K. llolimien, who both come from Wellington, have been appointed demonstrators in practical zoology at their university, lioth -Mr. Johnston and ilr. llolmdcn'were medallists last year, and both won honors in the last winter's term. These appointments are the only two such, made in the University, so that New Zealand has been singularly honored.
.Mr. Thomas Mackay, a Napier centenarian, celebrated his 103 rd birthday last week. Mr. Mnckay, who may fairly claim to bo about the oldest man in the Dominion, came to Mew Zealand in flu; ship Duchoss of Argyll in 1840. Ilis descendants include, a number of greatgra ndehildren. Cnlonel Davv was on Thursday, April lldtli. married to Miss Hem* Cornwall, in die presence of the members of the family. The ceremony was of a. quiet nature.
