NEW EDUCATION OFFICES.

. Probably the most solidly constructed and elaborately finished wooden building in New Plymouth i« the new suite of offices designed by the Board's architect, Mr. James Sanderson, and erected by Mr. W. Howson for the Taranaki Education Hoard. The building is erected on St. Michael's Square, near the Technical School, fronting Lemon-street. Standing high above the street and raised on high concrete foundations, the offices etand out prominently. The exterior appearance is very pleasing, the gables especially so. The rooling is of "Eternit," or asbestos slates, of a maroon tint, and make a capital finish. Apart from the very large window*, which are numerous, the rooms arc lilted with roof ventilators. Concrete steps lead to the outside doors, and swing-doors with Muranese glass sashes lead from the vestibule to a hall Bft x Sit. From this on the right opens the inspectors' suite of two rooms, which are also accessible from a corridor Sft wide. This corridor again gives access to the storeroom, and the main door of ] I hi- is at the rear of the building, straight ahead from the hall door is the Hoard room, 27ft x l!lft, lighted from windows o u the south and western aspects. To the left of the hall, and I accessible also from the corridor, are I lie secretary's office and clerks' room. The strongroom, fitted with a Milner's door, opens out of the secretary's room. , The stud throughout is 14ft high. The "hole of the interior is finished in riiim, a diagonal dado, "flat-varnished," with a heavy moulding, being stinuoiiiite'l by vertical lining, tinted, and "Hal'' white ceilings, with heavy architraves. All the varnished riiuii-whieh includes the mantels, doors, ami frames, aim malice arches in the liall-wa, selected, and is beautifully grained. Each room ha* its liroplaee a register grate lilted with a gas heater. Electric light is installed throughout. The lavatories and all the arrangements are on the -ame standard of excellence "as the rest of the building which is one of which Ihe architect and builder may well be j; proud.
