I London, May 12. The amendment proposed by Mr. A. E. Hutton (Libeial) to reject the Irish I'niversities Bill owing to its denominational basis was defeated by obi .-oti's to 3*l. The Bill was read a second time by 344 votes to 31. After Messrs. Redmond, Carson, and Birrell had spoken in support of it Mr. Moore (Conserartire member for Armagh) taunu: v Mr. Lloyd-George and other Liberal leaders with being false to the pledges j given to Nonconformist electors.
AN AUTUMN SESSION. London. Mav 12. The Premier, Mr. H. H. Asnuitli, states that an autumn session of Parliament is inevitable. THE LABOR PARTY.
London, May 12. The (Scottish Miners' Federation, with 80,000 members, has decided to join the Labor Party.
THE HOUSING BILL. ( Received 13th, 10.54 p.m. London, May 13. Mr. John Burns' House and Town Planning Bill was read a second time without division, though there were many complaints of the Bill's want of lucidity.
THE MONTROSE ELECTION. VICTORY FOR THE LIBERALS. Received 13th, 10.54 p.m. London, Jlav 13. Mr. Robert Harcourt, son of the late Sir William Vernon Harcourt, a Liberal, baa been elected for Montrose. The voting was:—Mr. Harcourt 3083; Mr. Burgess (Labor) 1937; Mr. Constable (Conservative) 1576.
At the last election the then Mr. Jlorley was returned by 4410 to Colonel Sprat's (U.) 1922.
