Now if there were a .voting men's club in the place, decently run, 1 would hasten to join, From a isordid point ol view, 1 would sivc money, and the eorupan. a person would meet with would of necessity be more congenial than the cosmopolitan company of the billiard ruoui or the hotel. In a club, too, a man could read the papen, play a game of cards, lake part in debates, and =o forth. Hut all the talk in tinworld won't atari a club. We want action. 1 see you are taking the names of those willing to join a club. Here s mine. 1 hope . v 0" wi " k "'l' l ,< =<=""<'' away and that the Mayor of the town will later on call a public meeting of young men and endeavor to give the schcine a concrete shape. Belore that is done, however, 1 would like to sec data cl.tained as to the proposed constitution of the club, cost ot working, besides information as to rooms, etc. I am, etc, CERTAIN JIEAIBU..
To th e Editor. | Sir,—As a result of the favorable na-, ture 'of the correspondence elicited from the suggestion that a young men's club should be formed in New Plymouth, it has become apparent that only a definite lead is required to launch the project, and with that object his Worship the Mayor, who is a strong supporter, will be asked to convene a meeting at an early date. The question of tiiiancc will be the most serious obstacle, but by no means an insurmountable one. 1 would suggest that intending ineuioers who would be prepared to pay two yearn' subscription in advance, bay about £2, should hand in their name--., either to the Mayor or to any one ol the .promoters. By so doing, dclinitc proposals could he laid before Hie proposed meeting, and much time saved. lu the meantime, a conditional option has been secured over the .splendidly situated rooms at one time occupied by the Taranaki Club, which are admirabi'. adapted for such a purpose, although, of course, it would be for the members to decide where the rooms should be. 1 have written merely that those who are hanging back to watch how the cat jumps may see that the promoters arc in earnest.—l am, etc.. JAS. Aid,holt.
In response to yesterday's invitation, we have received the names of tifteeu who are willing to join a young men's curb. When we have received, sav, twenty or thirty other names, we will I? pleased to ask the Mayor to call a public meeting for the purpose of considering ai>d dealing with the proposal.
