Collis considered that if the room was not worth 10s a month it was not worth having, for the 7%d a. week was not worth booking. Ihc Council saw no reason to alter its previous decision to adhere to the tariff. ELECTRIC LIGHT EXTENSION. .Messrs .T. W. H. Martin, E. Snowball, ■T. MeArtlmr, and B. Tooke petitioned for the extension of the electric lighting system oil the llrooklands road, agreeing to take current equal to s(>n oindk-power.—Referred to the Electric Lighting Committee for report. ABATTOIRS.
The abattoir manager's report ' was adopted. He explained that the pork for which Mr. Scott claimed was damaged, but principally bv the weathev. One of the pigs had been "shouldered," a rare occurrence. The flies had got at the meat. The pigs had been slaughtered one day earlier than ordered. I[e
did not know who should he responsible for the refunding of the amount paid to Mr. Seott.
The abattoirs committee recommend ed that "the manager be required to re fund to the Council the sum of £1 11:M for pigs slaughtered licfore flip time authorised"; that the question of proriding increased accommodation for Unboning of export stock lie left in the hands of the engineer and the conimit- | tee with power to act; that the en«in jeer be instructed to proceed with "the works already authorised. The report was adopted. MORE POWEr, WANTED. The Council adopted the Electric' Lighting Committee's recommendation that the borough engineer confer with the electrical engineer with a view of obtaining increased water power at the power-house.

<r. Browne said that without the terms offered in the first clause Gill street could not be extended as petitioned for by residents.

The New Zealand Municipal Associatieii wrote that the biennial conference of delegates would be held in July, and a'ked that the names of the Council's delegates and any remits lie forwnrdeil. Deferred. The engineer will report upon the question of reducing the width of T)e'von street footpaths near the Jfenui bridge. The matter of kcrbing and channelling in Devon street East was referred to the Estimates Committee.
