Ihe twenty-fifth annual statement of accounts of tile Salvation Army in Australasia, just issued from the territorial headquarters in Melbourne, is an interesting document, as showing the extensive nature of the transactions in which tliis institution engages. So much oi the work is done freely and voluntarily - by c!iicer s and members that the per- - eenla;,c of administrative expenditure is very small. The general statenicnl of income ami expenditure, which i B bal- > a need up to the 311 th September last, ■ and is confined to funds received at, and 1 expended through, the territorialTTeudquarters, shows that the amounts dealt with during the year totalled close on C 22,500, aud the property fund account is a' little more, showing close on C23.D00, .while the general and property fund balance-sheet shows a total of nearly C372,0(>0. For some years past a regular feature of the Army's work has lieen the raising of a "self-denial hind," and nearly every succeeding year breaks the record of the past, ilow important a source ol revenue thin fund is may be inferred from this special bal-ance-sheet, which shows that last year's Australasian contributions amounted to 00,981. In thin department New Zealand comes out easily ahead, having contributed .010,135, or more than a third of the whole. New 'South Wales gave CC357 and Victoria .C 4923, so that New Zealand's share .was not far short of the aggregate of the two most important Australian Slates. | Ellen Tern' lirst appeared on the 1 stage at the age of ten.
