A WESTPORT SENSATION.
KILLED IN A STABLE. Per Press Association. Wcstport, Saturday. Ernest J. iiurb', nged übuut formerly of Reefton, was found ill a dying condition ill a .-stable yard, and died bLortly after. The man's face was badly cut and one eye destroyed. Evident ly lie had been trampled upon l\y horses. Deceased was subject to excessive drinking. SERIOUS CHARGES MAY ARISE. Westport, Last Night. At the inquest touching the death of Ernest John Burke, who was found in a .stablo in a dying condition, and who subsequently died, a doctor ga/e evidence as to a number of cuts. and bruises on deceased's face and body, the nose being broken, but lie did not t'bink there had been foul play. , Later information suggests, however, that some serious charges may arisJ over the affair. Three men are at present in custody, one for leaving tlie s.s. Canopus without leave. Police inquiries arc aho being made for the cook of the barque Tc-cra, now in port. The police are also making inquiries as to their whereabouts on the night of the death oi Burke.
