The contractors for the voujstruclion of the electric tramways are pushing on with the erection of the carshed ami powerhouse and the preliminary work of laying the lines. The Mayor states that he expect* the trains to be running by Christmas. The rails are expeiLcd to arrive in three or four weeks' time, and the. work of laying iheiu will commence as soon after as possible. A public meeting of residents of An', moho on Wednesday night resolved lo take step* to form the suburb into a borough, and appointed a committee to give ell'ect to the resolution. This makes three boroughs within \V«nganui's area, in addition to the town district of Gonville. The population of the new borough will be about IsSOO. The Gonville Town Board has accepted a tender for the supply of water pipes and fittings. All expedition will 1 be used in pushing on with the reticulation of that suburb.

Edwin Howe, instructor in woodwork to the Wellington Education Board, was charged before the Magistrate today with assaulting a boy by beating him with a cane. The evidence for complainant alleged that the boy was brutally beaten. llowe stated that he considered the punishment reasonable and necessary in tlie interests of discipline. Judgment was reserved.

About 50 employers attended a meeting to-night, and after an address by Mr. Pryor, organising secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, it was resolved to form .111 association to lie affiliated therewith.
