The affirmation was read somewhat Jnaudibly, and it is supposed that Viscount Motley has taken some usual oath. THE WAGES PROBLEM. London, May 7. Mr. Ernest Aves, the writer on eeonoinics, testified before the House of Commons' Home Work Committee that, although wages boards worked well in , Australia in filing a legal minimum wage, Brtish trades presented formidable difficulties in the way of such s.stem. He added that in the event uf a Urge increase of Australian immigration it would probably be impossible to maintain the present rates of wages there.
